Ita received the "Brdo" award

PMF

Traditionally, on the occasion of the Day of the Faculty of Sciences (April 21st), students choose one of the professors and reward him, or her, with the "Brdo" award. The "Brdo" award is awarded to the best professor according to the students' votes at a particular department. This year we are proud that the recipient of this award was Ita.

Congratulations Ita!

New project grant

Croatian Science Foundation

We are very happy our new project grant "Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases as gatekeepers of the standard genetic code" was approved by Croatian Science Foundation. During the next four years, we will investigate the synthetic and editing mechanisms of three aaRSs responsible for translation of amino acids that build the protein core: leucine, valine and isoleucine. We will compare the catalytic principles and gained specificity of the enzymes’ synthetic and editing sites against proteinogenic and non-coded amino acids. The goal is to improve our understanding of the basis for selection of the natural amino acid alphabet, and how violation of the coding principles influences cell physiology.

More information about the project is available here.
